A Long List of Things

I've actually been doing a lot, starting many things and working on them as I go. I guess this is the most exciting thing this week is my little ode to League of Legends and their stunning pairings.

Two of my favourite wrapped in one drawing. Caitlyn x Vi and Leona x Diana.

The Law and The Rebel vs The Sun and The Moon.

I'm treating this as a test to the style I'll be trying to refine the rest of the summer. I've struggled with trying to find that balanced blend of cartoon and rendered illustration that I oh so love. I do need to try and push things a bit more.I think for my signature theme of pretty girls I do have a knack for eyes, at least that what I find myself mostly captivated towards.

I'm kinda bummed I didn't work as hard to keep up with my blog but I will do so now as I think it's pretty rad to see process work.

I have a very specific swatch collection that I work with in photoshop. I do like the uncoated pastels as a base to work off of in school when I don't have my laptop with me where I have a good 30 or so colours that I like to constantly refer back to.

 I did end up colouring the sketch from the last post. I tried to do a simple block in and minimalistic shading. I tried, and I felt so sad after I was done, but it wasn't the type of image that needed a lot of rendering. I like the legs the most in this.

 Justin Chan, an animation student in the year below me started this pretty cool collaboration across Twitter that invited artists to do a quick sketch of the first 150 pokemon. I was inspired by Pasquale D'Silva's project featuring animals made out of triangles (Triganimals), http://psql.carbonmade.com/projects/4812927 and decided to take a stab at this very graphic geometric style.

The pokemon I got was Jolteon (the right) which is the lightening evolution of the starter pokemon, Eevee. I'm working on finishing the set of all the eeveelutions. Currently on Vaporeon, the water type.

I think I may make a button set of these when I have finished :)

 Wanting to vamp up my twitter page I decided to make a new drawn ID versus taking 50 + photos. I am an artist, why shouldn't I draw? Mint is one of my favourite colours so using that muted pastel ( my favourites ) as my background I quickly got to work on another minimal rendering piece that I am actually quite smitten with.

My friend Hayley,  is a photographer who goes to school with me at Sheridan and is an active artist in other mediums as well. I want to describe her drawings as ... she means well. I'm kidding, she's very talented and you can tell she has a lot of fun working in other mediums other than photos. In our group of friends though she's very fashion forward ( like I try to be! ) and so she was pretty, emphasis on the pretty easy to draw. She's a lot of fun and has a definitive style is which is a mash up of pin-up and 90's cool.

My intention will be to also draw the rest of our group of friends, who now that I think about it are all very smartly dressed, trendy folk.

Que the cloud over your head that tells you your friends are all way too gorgeous and deserve to be models. Well, they are, maybe not by an agency but they're used quite a bit as other photographer's models in school.

Moving on are just random sketches that I posted on instagram throughout the season from my sketchbook.

This is my original character Ellie, she's a waitress. She works in a trendy coffee house, so maybe a barista too. Shes got sass for days. 

Again, as promised I will post more. If I don't I will get a tattoo.

Well that's not such a bad punishment.

Well except that I can't tolerate pain at all.

We'll come back to a later date to discuss what my punishment should be if I don't keep up with the blog.

It was a fun sketch, it was going to be something else and then I had urge to laser someone in my frustration. Lux came to mind. I like the pastel swatches in photoshop. :)

Finished Girl's Wallpaper

So I finally finish all four girl's that I had started out to do. I may do some more, but who the heck knows! For now here's some of the ladies of League that rock our worlds. Enjoy the abs, butts and pretty beach hair duh!

Caitlyn, Sheriff of Piltover

2 of the 4 gals done, this is Caitlyn. Probably my favourite champion AD wise. I don't know why she got a booty, but she do! Enjoy, things are looking up style wise. I'm definitely trying. Skin is getting a bit better but the final where all 4 are composite together they'll be some significant changes. Hoping to try and darken areas and really try to make contrast. haha it's still a bit scary to do it in hope of not ruining a piece. But I should, because digital gives me the freedom to make mistakes like that and come back to a piece I was comfortable with. Anyways done with my thoughts, here's Cait!

League Drawing Update

Working steadily on this piece, Ahri, Vayne, Caitlyn and Lux. Oh these ladies. I actually don't really played Vayne and Ahri as much but if I don't play Lux or Cait I play those two...? Lol about 2/100 chance that happens. But I think I may have played Ezreal more than that. I'm like a 2 trick pony haha, anyways done in photoshop. Trying different styles to get better. This one focuses bright colours and bold black lines.

Power of the Internet

I have some wicked news to share, the online game I play League of Legends (North American site) has a weekly spotlight on anything artistic and creative that their players or known as "summoners" submit as fan work. I did a Caitlyn drawing in August and it got featured in the Around the World showcase found: here.
I am super happy, proud and excited that my work has chosen to be one of the artwork to be shown. Moreover, I'm really stunned at the traffic generated on my blog because of it. So grateful to anyone who went to go look at my blog and in the general interest of it all.

 ^ Like really? Wow, thank you! Because it scared me to hello how I got these hits. I'm so glad my love for this game has expanded into what I want to do in life, game art. And treated me well, thanks Riot!

So as an appreciation, I will be sketching and potentially painting more of those awesome champions that we love.... since my range of champions to love has grown to Lux, Cassiopeia, Vayne, and Leblanc.

Really I just love her art, and I imagine it looks good hopefully in game too. Since the new patch Janna looks really ugly in game model.

But right now, I just have drawings for Hextech, which is super expensive. Which drawing do you guys like more?

Next, is something I am really really excited for my favourite champ's new skin to come out ! ^o^

Caitlyn's, Arctic Warfare skin! I love when she has blue hair, looks awesome. The more she gets, the more Asian is starting to look lol.

Oh well I don't care. I love her :)
And finally, Ashe's Queen skin. Meh, Ashe was one of my favourites, and even though I liked her Frjelord skin more, this one is on sale :)

Again, there's an asian-like drawing of her and then the one you find on League of Legends.

Finished Caitlyn, as much as she will get finished in this program I am using. I think this is pretty good. I mean my style and technique has gotten better. I'm happy with it. And no one who tries to criticize or be snobby about it can take that away from me.

I hope that I can be this confident and positive about all the work I ever do. It's a hard thing, but I know I did well and I know I put a lot of work into it.

So thanks for feedback and comments that you do make to help me improve. If I don't listen, it's because I love it too much for it to ever be different in my eyes :P

This evening I did something quite productive art wise. I played 2 games but I felt more drawn to actually finishing Caitlyn, the Sheriff of Piltover. I tweaked some parts about her and applied some lovely nowledge I gained in my year of Art Fundies. I think, I'm doing alright digitally, for what I have and practice. When I get photoshop, this is going to be a whole new game ladies and gents. SO WATCH OUT! :D I might draw you if you inspire me to do so!

So first picture after this is just a screen shot of what it looks like while I'm drawing. So fancy, huhuhu.

Next is the official League of Legends art for Caitlyn. I don't mind it, except for the face. It looks so angry, and stiff. I do adore the colour temperature in it though, and the rest of the body is well drawn. Save for the overly elongated torso. I do like everything about it. Just not the face.

My drawing is more like the second one, at least making the face prettier and livelier. However, the key thing, as much as from a distance the drawing looks smoother and more modern. I am not a fan of the metallic tube values going on. Skin does not go like that. It looks fake, and just overly contrasted. I do adore the redesign and pose. They're wonderful to her tough girly attitude. I hope they fix her voice in a later patch. Sounds too manly. Squee, I love drawing my favourite characters 8D

Unfortunately I don't know any of the artists to these works :(
COOL FACT: I think in all of her drawings, Caitlyn is actually supposed to have a little Asian to her. No joke, the title of the last picture was in a forum called "Chinese Caitlyn" and her Sheriff skin, is very Asian like as well!

BIGGER NEWS. I want her new skin. So gorgeous. Will happen with an RP card :P When that happens.
