Ficto-Planet

Ficto-planet, design and paint a out of world area to paint.

Rough Grayscale Thumbnail, I ended up changing the design to be more complex. I wanted the planet to have more of this organic, uninhibited feeling where the surrounding flora was reminiscent but not recognizable on Earth. You see trees but made of what? Rocks, crystals, or did they have the same properties and had glowing veins? - I wanted a surreal fly's eye feel to the trees.
I knew it my heart, before I handed this piece in that the contrast was too low. It was too wishy washy, I tried to enhance it more in the bottom left corner  with the transition of the purple and blue base of the tree. I'm happy with the result, but I know there was more to improve on. I've become quite taken with the idea of reworking an image to see how I could have done it and potentially fix it, or redo, and even approach it differently if I were to move on from that. Using photoshop to drop in shadows in more key areas to show where the light should have fallen to create a more tense and meaningful atmosphere.
