In our third year at Sheridan, we do a group film. Group A1 is doing the
creation story of the seasons, based off the Greek Myth of Hades, the
Lord of the Underworld and Persephone, the goddess of kore/spring.
Essentially
the myth goes that Hades falls in love with Persephone, gets his
brother Zeus to help him take Persephone back to the Underworld to be
his wife. Demeter, is Persephone's mother and is angry that they have
done this and scours the Earth, as the deity of harvest she withholds
her bounty until her daughter is returned. Meanwhile, Hades has
Persephone eat some pomegranate which bound her to the Underworld.
However, the world is dying and Zeus can't sit by idly, so a deal is
made. For 6 months (Fall and Winter) Persephone who has grown to love
Hades as well, stays as the Queen, while the other 6 months (Spring and
Summer) she returns to the Earth, to her mother. The earth is flouring
and and rejuvenated. Her travels back and forth in planes represent the
coming and going of seasons.
We focus in the first meeting between the two characters and their growing fondness of each other's worlds, the beauty they have to offer and the happiness they experience in their budding romance,
